Mothers’ Union is
an organisation of some 4 million Christians in over 80
countries who give money, experience and prayer to
support marriage and family life.
Our vision is
a world where God’s love is shown through loving,
respectful and flourishing relationships.
Our aim is
to demonstrate the Christian faith in action by the
transformation of communities worldwide through the
nurture of family in its various forms.
To achieve this vision our
mission is:
·
To
promote and support marriage and its wider understanding
·
To
encourage parents to bring up their children in the
Faith and life of the Church
·
To
maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in
prayer, worship and service
·
To
promote conditions in society favourable to stable
family life and the protection of children
·
To
help those whose family life has met with adversity
Mothers’
Union in the Diocese of
St. David's
In our diocese we have
drop-in centres; we provide holidays for families in
need; we help in local hospitals; we support the
Mission to Seafarers and
we are active in our own parishes and communities
through our input in care homes, in our churches and
youth societies. We fund raise for various causes both
at home and overseas.
We are linked in prayer
with seven other dioceses –two in
Australia
and one each in
South Africa,
Uganda,
Kenya,
Sudan and
Nigeria.
We have 2000 members in
100 branches and also some diocesan members who are
unable to attend meetings locally. Some members are part
of a very active prayer chain and some are indoor
members. Day and Residential Retreats and Quiet Days are
held throughout the diocese.
MOTHERS’ UNION IN THE BENEFICE
OF EAST CARMARTHEN
We hold a Service on the 1st Tuesday of the month at
2.30pm at St. Peter’s Church and, on the 3rd Tuesday of
the month, we meet at 6.30 in St. John’s Church. During
these evening meetings we welcome a wide range of
speakers both from within our Parish and beyond. We take
part in the Worldwide “Wave of Prayer” and have an
Annual Dinner, Christmas Symposium and Annual Trip; most
recently we attend the MU Diocesan Festival at St.
David’s Cathedral and visiting Holy Trinity Church,
Pontargothi.
Many of our members and their friends are keen knitters.
We knit balaclavas for the Mission to Seafarers and
teddies for sick and distressed children in our local
hospitals.
We liase regularly with other Branches in our Deanery
and join together for Quiet Evenings, Days of Fellowship
and fund raising activities. Recently, we held a very
successful coffee morning for AFIA (Away from it All –
holidays for families in need).
MU members are involved in practically all aspects of
Church life from Child Protection to Bell Ringing and
from Choir Membership to serving on the Church
Councils and Benefice Council. One of our Members goes into a local primary
school with the “God for Kids” project; others serve on
the “Plant Dewi” Committee and, as tradition would have
it, we also make a brilliant cup of tea!!
Membership of the MU is open to ALL regardless of gender
or marital status.
